Maths - Capacity

In 1999 we had to go to the pools??? A few weeks ago we had to do a question sheet about Matching Capacities. We had  to match up one number with a picture. Then we came back a few weeks after with our sheet and fixed up anything that we thought was incorrect with a different colour pen.

During maths we had to first we has to predict what size each jars mill was. Then we had to measure each jar to see how close or far we were. We measured a bucket and that was 4 cups and 10 litres.

Jackie and the beanstalk

My hart thumps louder then a crazy party, I have just climbed the beanstalk and now I am face to face with a double headed giant. His voice screams louder then anything on planet earth. Right now I am between heaven and hell. Everything stops, all of the preposterous things flow into my mind. He will rip my head off and eat it for dinner. Well he doesn't. He locks me in a cage and starts laughing. I haven't told you my name yet, my name is Jackie, but most people call me Jack. 

One day my auntie told me to sell the house and cart. So I did. Some crazy lunatic comes and gives me some beans. He begs me for the horse, so I give it to him. Before the horse trots off. He tells me something very important. Don't get the beans wet. I just have got them wet. Wow. This monster beanstalk grows straight infornt of my eyes. Oh boy I'm in trouble.

As most of you know, I'm Aroha, the award winning bright star. Troy and Nics favourite student. Got nice smooth hair, and arms as strong as a gorillar. Actually I'm nothing like that. I'm the weird qwerkie one in the block. I always tend to embassies my self with something stupid I say or do. Today I will be telling you how I became the queen of the world. "Just tricking, yes Andy Griffins is a star. 

My life has been a bumpy road, yes very bumpy. As bumpy as a 7hour drive to Auckland. But I have enjoyed all the fun little things like camp, and the plaza, and butter chicken.

 Jade has been the most horrible person I have ever met. Always mean and nasty. Always saying I'm the one who cracks eggs in her garden. So not true. Just kidding, another one of Andy Griffins books I think. Jade is the most wonderful never wrong, and polite person in the world. Always smiling, and never giving up. Well actually that is a lie as well. The only thing I can say about Jade is she is tall, my BFF and, well Jade. 

Nic, 
He is ummm, well totally, awesome cool funny weird incredible outstanding, awesome hahahaha, lol, awesome cool funny and my teacher. Nic has been my teacher for two years. That's like 365 days twice.

Although I do have 2 minuets left.  Ok maybe Josiah can sing you his leaving song. Nah. Wait, I think mum is calling me. I better go. Naughty Story

The thing that worries me the most is getting told off. I take a glimpse at it then realise what I have done. Everything has just exploded inside of me. How will she ever trust me again. She only left for about ten minutes. Why....? My heart beating like I was just in a earthquake.  How am I going to clean this up.   

We'll, it started when I was 10. Yes, last year. "I'm just going to feed the cat at grandmas, then getting some dip for our movie. Oh,  and DONT EAT THE CHIPS" the door slams shut. The creek of the garage door. Sooo slow. The engine blasts in my ear. I stumble outside to greet her off. Yes she is finally gone.

" Boy am I hungry" I sigh then stare at the... No. Mum said no. I start watching a boring documentary about food. Hurry up mum. How long dose it take to feed a cat. I wonder. Dose she take out one biscuit at a time. We'll maybe she couldn't decide what dip to have. Anyway she is taking a long time.  


I creep into the kitchen like a mouse. We'll actually I stomp, trip then flop into the kitchen like a giant, but I survive that bit. I do the laser beam stunt. Yes I acted like a spy or a robber. I consider my self to be more of a robber in this story. I slide on my knees like a guitarist but get Lino burn. There it is. No, eww no, not fish. Blaaahhh. No not broccoli??? Yes thank you. Melt in mouth, rack of rib chips. Mmmmmm my fav. 

My trouble fingers glide across the bowl. I take one and fell like someones watching me. I through it in my mouth then sprint into my room. What I didn't know was that when I turned around my arm wacked the bowl and smashed on the ground. Who cares about the bowl, THE CHIPS!!!


We'll I can't say I did it on purpose, but it wasn't on accident. Oh so confusing. She left me at home, like a starving child. Oh yeah, ummm I forgot to mention that umm, she kinda left a truck load of apples, carrots and fruit. So in reality i wasn't a starving child, but I have already eaten that. 

The broom of the car re-blasts in myh ear and I get a big fright. I sprint out of the kitchen and into my bedroom. The creek of the door opens super fast. Mum walks into the kitchen and her mouth drops to the ground.

Our Time To Shine

Sweat slide down the side of my check as I hear the words come in girls. As we slide into the hall all eyes on us. The scorching sun spews into the room. Blazing straight into my eyes. The music starts and I feel puzzled. What happens  we get to the stage and the song is in the middle of its time?

It all started when mum was late. Time was passing. My hair can't make it self. Waiting out side I finally see her. I yank her out of the car and we dash into the bathroom. Sue ( Niamh's mum ) gives us our costumes. Our look is Si Fie type thing. We got half a mask and decorated it with sparkles.  Mean while mum is just doing the last bit of hair. We rush into the music room, then scurry out. My face redder then a ripe chili. Shaking like crazy I have enough courage to go out there. We get called, "all the way from the other side of the world, please welcome the dancers." We hadn't made up a name for the group yet. There were two sides.

Butterfly's ( nerve wreaking side ) or the fighters ( the confident no butterfly side. ) who's gonna win. Oh butterfly's are down fighters are up oh no fighters are down. Butterfly's win. The point of this fight is that I was super duper nervous.

We scurry on stage. Our jam plays. We haven't even gotten to our destination ( the stage.) I am so confused.  Jade jiggles her head to troy. Hesitating him. Trying to tell him to stop. Nothing. She jiggles her head again.  He stops the music. Then plays it again. I am flooded in sweat right now. Even though I am hotter then egypt we carried on with the dance, got every move correct and I was like a steam room.

We had to use (See, Hear, Smell, Feel, Taste, Think, Do, Feel, Say) in parts of our story so for see you had to put so etching that you saw and you had to do that for all of the other words.

BUDDY COMMENT: I think you did well at your detail and your boiling hot words but I think you should improve on your main idea like your dance because your are not really putting that much into your story!!!

Te Reo Maori Poster

Te Reo Presentation 

                  WALT: communicate a message.

Description: We have been participating in 3 different workshops around colour, compositions and fonts.  We put these skills to use in a poster sharing our knowledge about Te Reo Maori.
Why? We have noticed that our posters are too cluttered ad do not communicate a  message well.

Task: Make a poster about Te Reo Maori.

Criteria:
Message: My message is clear and purposeful.  Everything that is on my poster relates to my message. 

Composition:  My poster is balanced. 

Font:  My font is clear, readable and suits the message.

Colour:  I have used 2-3 colours that are complementary.  My background choice makes the text pop!

Accuracy:  All of the words on my poster are spelt correctly. Yes

Evaluation:
What are you most proud of and why? Getting the hole thing finished in time ( so I can play poutama sport ) and making sure it is neat.  

What challenged you the most and why? Colouring in the title and making sure that I spell the words correctly. 

Next time, what is a goal you can work towards? Making my poster smaller so I can be very confidant of were everything goes. 

Feedback/Feedforward: i think you did well in your colours that match your background but i think you should work on when you did the title big and all of the things that is about the reo maori small.

My writing goal is to... Create a mental image across texts by using language features such as similes and metaphors.



I will accomplish my goal by... Keeping this goal in the back of my mind so I will remember to use metaphors and similes. Also my goal is here on my blog and in my book.

Writing

Energy, energy is very important in life. There is a lot of energy. Like a lot. Energy comes in three states.


There are three states of matter, solid, liquid and gas. A solid can be a table, a liquid can be water, and gas can be helium. Just say you have a small container fill of marbles, when you shake the container you can not hear anything or see any movement, that is a solid. If you tip some of the marbles out, put the lid on then shake it all around, you will see that it is moving more and you can hear them rattling around. That is liquid. When you tip out a half of what you have left and shake that around, you will hear more noise and see that they jiggle around more. That is a gas.

Atoms, atoms are everything you can see, touch and taste. Atoms are incy wincy things that move. So nothing stands still. Atoms can heat your body, atoms make you sweat. Have you ever heard of molecules, we'll atoms are made out of molecules. Three atoms make one molecule. Atoms are also known as matter and that brings me to my next paragraph.


Potential energy is stored energy. Think of a pen, if you put it on the edge of a table it has the potential to fall off. So potential energy is energy that has the ability to move. 

Kinetic energy is when an object does something like moving. It transfers energy to the same mass. For an example, think of Newtons C radle, there are five balls. The first ball gets lifted then let go. When it's let go and hits the other three balls, it gives the last ball energy to go into the air. So basically kinetic energy is objects that move.

What is heat and temperature you ask, are they the same? We'll heat and temperature are not the same. They only have one thing in common, they both can be hot. Heat can not be cold. It is just a fact. There is no way that heat can be cold. Heat is hot and that's how it will stay. Heat is made by atoms. Just like everything else in the universe. Atoms warm up stuff to make it hot. To make it heat. Temperature can hot and cold.  Temperature is when you get chilly on a cold stormy night, or feeling the hot vibe at the beach. But seriously, temperature is everything hot and cold. Now you can understand that heat and temperature are not the same. 

In conclusion energy is everywhere there are three states of matter. Atoms are always moving. Heat and temperature are not the same. Potential energy is stored energy and kinetic energy is moving energy.

Maths Workshop 4

WALT: Multiplying using place value.



Purpose:  Our focus is to use different multiplication strategies to figure out three digit multiplication questions faster.  

Process:  At the moment we are focusing on the place value strategy.  To start with, our maths group worked together to learn the strategy.  Then we had a go by ourselves trying to use the strategy for each problem.  We shared our answers back with the group to discuss what the answers were.  




Since this way of solving maths has not only helped the people who are watching the video, it has added a new strategy to my learning.  


Buddy Assesment: I think next time you could decorate a little more but apart from that it's fine & I now know how to do place Value. Georgia
